140: Cabernet Franc
- Wildekrans Cabernet Franc
- Hanenhof Cabernet Franc
- Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc
- Writers Block Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc is a red wine grape variety similar to, and a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. A cross of it with Sauvignon Blanc resulted in Cabernet Sauvignon (most likely by accident). Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has fewer tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Its typical aromas include herbaceousness and a pronounced peppery nose, even in ripe fruit, and something resembling wet tobacco. Cabernet Franc forms part of the Bordeaux blend, usually taking a minor role to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, except in certain wines of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Many of the red wines of the Loire are primarily Cabernet Franc, although it is not mentioned on the label. This pack was put together to highlight this cool-climate grape that is gaining popularity amongst many wineries around the world. While the grape is tricky to create a very approachable wine from, when it is done right they drink far above their pricetag. This pack has four great examples of the varietal from all over the world. Cheers!
